William Van Arsdale and Matthew Harris opened Van Arsdale-Harris Lumber (VAH) in 1888 in downtown San Francisco. VAH was located on Fifth and Brannan until 1957 when it moved to its current location in Brisbane. Brisbane is located just a few minutes south of San Francisco in the windswept Visitation Valley. The cool-breezy wind makes Brisbane the ideal climate for the natural drying of several species of lumber; in particular our Western Red Cedar stock. Over the years we have had several interesting and exciting customers. We've supplied lumber for the world famous San Francisco cable cars to use for their brake pads. The San Francisco Fire Department (one of the last fire departments to still use wooden ladders), constructs them out of our reliable Douglas Fir. Major Blockbuster hits including: Mrs. Doubtfire, The Kite Runner, The Doors, The Rock, and Milk have all purchased lumber to construct sets. Since 1888, we have prided ourselves in supplying the finest quality of lumber and customer service. Our employees treat every order, large or small, with the same care and attention that they deserve. Finest Quality Of Lumber & Customer Service |
